Letters to the editor (SAULT
STAR)Sault
athletes naturally gifted I am
compelled to write to express my feelings of envy. I was in Sault Ste. Marie this past fall to attend the first ever World Club Ringette Championships hosted in your fine
city, and this is when I first came to know of your tourism tag line -- Naturally Gifted. I have recently had occasion to
learn more about its true meaning. A week ago,
the Sault Ste. Marie Ice Hawks Belle A ringette team travelled to eastern Ontario,
where my community hosted the provincial championships. After spending a week with the athletes and coaches from the Sault, I have now come to know that, while your city
may be blessed with natural splendor, its people are its greatest assets. Two of the Sault players -- Jessica D'Angelo and Riley Jo Linklater -- registered in the top 15
scorers for the entire provincial tournament. The Ice Hawks Belle A team completed the preliminary round locked in a five-way
tie for first place. Our community adopted
the team as its own because the stands were packed when the team lost a heart-breaking game to determine who would advance
to the semifinals. Not surprising to everyone gathered, the team was crowned the provincial sportsmanship award winner. This
team was not only an exemplar for the city of Sault Ste. Marie but
an exemplar for all involved in ringette. Sault
Ste. Marie, you should be proud of this ringette team of fine young ambassadors for the city. It is clear that their participation has been rewarded with a program that has
reinforced excellence, commitment, and a strong dedication to important values and a focused commitment to ethical sport.
From the opening game to their final tie-breaker, both on and off the ice, your community was well represented by this crew
of ringette athletes, coaches and supportive parents and volunteers. Naturally gifted? Sault Ste. Marie and its Ringette Ice Hawks. I'm envious. Doug MacQuarrie, Director,
Ethics and Anti-Doping Services, Canadian
Centre for Ethics in Sport, Ottawa, Ont.

By-Law 2007-03 to be amended at annual general meeting (posted this 3rd of April, 2009.) CURRENTLY READS: The members of the Sault Ringette Club at the Annual
General Meeting each year shall appoint an auditor for the purposes of auditing the books, records, and financial statements
for the Corporation, unless the members at the Annual General Meeting, by majority vote, dispense with the necessity of appointing
such an auditor by empowering the Board of Directors to do so. PROPOSED AMENDMENT: The members of the Sault Ringette Club empower the Board of Directors to appoint an examiner for the puposes of checking
the books, records and financial statements for the Corporation. At any annual general meeting, the members of the Sault
Ringette Club, by majority vote, may require that a full audit be carried out. EXPLANATORY NOTE: As a not for profit corporation, there is no mandated requirement that the books be formally audited. This has been
verified with Ontario Ringette. A full audit is quite expensive. Should ORA or other governing body require a full audit, the
Sault Ringette Club will comply. At any annual general meeting, the members of the Sault Ringette Club, by majority vote,
may require that a full audit be carried out. Otherwise, Sault Ringette will have a competent examiner verify that proper
bookkeeping standards are kept and applied to the financial matters of Sault Ringette Club.
